Hello Mohicanlanders!
Thought I would move the discussion of college football here so that those enjoying the tattoo discussion (myself included) wouldn't get bogged down.
Seems there might be a few fans out there that love their college football (myself included) with even a rivalry or two amongst us.
Saturdays are filled with most anyone's team televised, on the radio waves, or playing at a stadium near you. I love this time of year!
So, with that, a big ROLL TIDE! Look to hear from everybody interested.

Hey Theresa! Guess I'm a little slow getting here~haven't checked in for a while. I'm not usually too interested in college football, but I do have an interest in Northern Illinois. Joe Novak, the head coach, is my daughter's father-in-law. He's worked very hard over the last few years to build a winning team and, finally, this year they have only lost one game so far. It's been a lot of fun to watch his progress with a team of Illinois guys and I only hope they can continue to win the rest of their season. Just wanted to say Go Huskies!!

GET OUT!! Northern Illinois has had a great season. We were so hoping they would beat Bowling Green. Tell your daughter to tell Coach Novak that Bama fans were pulling for them to win. They certainly gave us all we wanted. |

I'll pass along the kind words, Theresa. I watched the BG game on TV and you could tell those folks were out for blood from the very start. I was glad to keep hearing the commentators say not to count NIU out of the game too early even though they lost in the end. Kathryn was never a sports fan so we thought it was funny when she married in to a football family. She's become a pretty good Huskies fan. David (her husband) sent me a picture of her at the BG game wearing her Huskies cap. I told him he'd make her a football fan yet. Hope you Bama fans will keep pulling for NIU the rest of the season. Go Huskies!!

We will certainly pull for NIU. I've told some of my friends about this and they ALL said to wish them luck for the remainder of their season. My son and I went to the Bama/Tennessee game...5 OT's...five hour game...totally exhausting but a lot of excitement and fun...even though we didn't win. Like I told Carter, who is Auburn (blech...hey Carter!)if we can't win this year, at least we've got a good looking coach to watch. LOL! |

LOL! Shula's a cutie alright! My sister attended UAT when he was a player and got to hold hands with him at Catholic mass. (Her claim to fame ROFL!)
I hate overtime games! It's so exhausting! |

Well, here in Columbia we're suffering through another up and down season with the Gamecocks. Early morale-boosting wins, then devastating losses including a dismemberment by LSU and the very close comeback against Ole Miss last week. Some people here are not happy -- one guy on the post-game call in show last week even started crying -- but the rest of us are used to this "Up and down" stuff. I'm not happy my other fave Penn State is in the toilet, but oh well... we have our own "coach at Mass" anecdote -- Carolina's coach, Lou Holtz, goes to 7:15 AM Mass every Sunday that he's in town. Sits in the same pew every time and wears the same outfit -- a "dressy" sweatshirt and khakis. He goes to my church. I've had a few football maniacs ask me to get his autograph during Mass. Had to kind of explain that's not exactly "Catholic kosher!" Go Cocks! (no, I'm not being vulgar...that's actually our cheer...) Imagine the experience of shouting that with 80,000 other people on a clear fall day. I always seem to end up on the "Cocks" side of the stadium which is a little disconcerting. Oh well... Christina

OK...got a Shula experience myownself. In 1987 our son's Little League team won the state championship. The Regional Tournament is played in St. Petersburg, Florida. One day while there, after practice, our team got to go to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice. After practice they/we got to meet the players...Shula was quarterback. I didn't hold his hand like Carter's sister but I did get close enough to smell his sweat. |

OK, our Building Plant Operator at school is an ex-Tampa Bay player, and for the last couple of years, he's brought players up to Anchorage to give motivational talks to the kids. It's been cool! |

I don't know if any of the college football fans here checked out the score of the University of South Carolina and Clemson game from this past Saturday. The Tigers beat us 63-17. I've been watching football since I was four years old and rarely have I seen a dismemberment of this proportion. It was Massacre Valley with goal posts. I swear I saw Magua somewhere on the sidelines fricasseeing hearts... It's bad enough losing to your biggest rival but when it's a massacre...SIGH. Anybody else's favorite team bite the big one this weekend??? Theresa, sorry about Bama! Oh well, at least the Steelers won... Christina

Hey Christina,
Saw the Clemson/South Carolina score...Tommy Bowden may have secured his job.
Bama gave Auburn a good game but came up short...AGAIN! I've talked to Carter, who went to the game, and gave her a teeny tiny war eagle . We've got some good young players that will make an impact in the next two or three years and it looks like we've got some really good verbal committments. And, as I've stated, if we can't win, at least we've got a looker on the sidelines.
They leave early Wednesday morning for the Hawaii game Saturday at 6:45 (central) on ESPN. |
