I agree with the above post. Maybe Uncas wasn't the main hero of the story, but he was heroic. And that is what I like most his character. |

Posted - March 19 2004 : 2:18:40 PM I think he really loved her.. cos of the scene before he died when he was slashed by magua..and he has that intense exchange of looks with alice...maybe for alice..it could have been puppy love..as she was suppose to be eighteen??..but point to note that in hte 18th century..girls got married at that age..so it might not have been puppy love too..plus she jumped after he died..but for uncas?? I think he is considerably older and judging from the movie..he was pretty matured..and i think he knew what he was doing the whole time..and the few times he looks at her..the intensity here gives me goosebumps..!! |

Ack, I never tire of the movie either. Now I'm on my secong VHS copy, and my brother got me a DVD player and the DVD for Christmas (he used some money I gave him to buy himself a DVD of LOTM). Anyway, I sure am enjoying the zoom button and like to pop in the DVD sometimes and just jump through the movie. I wish MM had put everything back in the movie, made it 4 or 5 hours long! |

Oh, girl, you DID miss something! Our Uncas got his bloody nose from when he leaped through the falls and was carried downstream. Notice when they're on their way to rescue the gals, they're bloodied up. His nose is bloody after he hauls his cute behind out of that stream (THUD!). |

Posted - December 23 2002 : 7:38:41 PM i agree with mohican warrior. i think he knew what the concequences might be but he still tried because she was the only one he'd ever truly had feelings for. why else would someone like him go off by himself and not wait for his comrades? he was a rational man who wasnt being rational at that paticular moment on purpose. ~Roxy~ |

Posted - December 22 2002 : 10:51:01 AM I think that he thought to himself that it was time to save the one he really loved. Even though he knew that there might be concequences he still tired to save her. and that probably means that he was head over heels for her. mohicanwarrior |

Posted - December 08 2002 : 8:18:32 PM they must have wanted to make him more special...or it could have been the actor's idea (darn, his name just flew out of my head!!) i mean, he was a native american...or it could just have been another of mann's enhancements to the story, i mean, he wasnt too big on following the plotline. |

Posted - December 07 2002 : 6:00:13 PM But no blue club...*is very upset* Wait, so when they made the movie, did it just pop into their heads to have Chingachgook with a blue club??? How did that orginate??? |
Ithiliana |
Posted - December 07 2002 : 09:40:07 AM well, he had a military rifle, and he used it quite affectively...also had a tomahawk |

Posted - December 06 2002 : 4:00:44 PM How can you have Chingachgook without his blue club???? Thats not right at all? *pouts in her corner* |

Posted - November 23 2002 : 12:59:48 PM hehe...he pushed magua off a cliff (or maybe magua jumped)...dont remember too well...the club was cool. tho |

Posted - November 23 2002 : 12:08:05 PM But the war club was cool! So what did he kill Magua with then??? |

Posted - November 23 2002 : 09:32:04 AM rofl....i dunno, actually....i dont think JFC mentions it in his books. i tend to believe that in the book, chingachgook and uncas were only equipped with knives, tomahawks, and a short military rifle apiece that was provided to them by the british government....don't think there was any mention of a war club anywhere. |

Posted - November 23 2002 : 08:14:49 AM What about Uncas's blue club? Was that considered a "mohican gift?" |
Ithiliana |
Posted - November 22 2002 : 8:58:53 PM ummmm....actually, it doesnt go into this in the movie, but in the book, the rifle was considered a "white man's gift" |
Vixen |
Posted - November 22 2002 : 8:54:34 PM i know, I can only imagine how Uncas must feel, after being over shadowed by someone that isnt even his own race... you know, being beaten at something that a mohican does best by a white man. |
Ithiliana |
Posted - November 22 2002 : 8:06:50 PM i think it might be that he wanted to feel special after natty's heroic deeds...you know, being overshadowed by his big white bro all the time must not have been all that cool. so, in a way, he did it to be a hero. |

Posted - November 22 2002 : 6:29:57 PM LOL! I too think that it was puppy love that fueled their relationship, but I think the reason he went up on the cliff was because maybe it was what Chingachgook and Hawkeye expected him to do. For instance, Hawkeye and Chingachgook are really the only ones that do some major carnage, Uncas is really just sitting there in the background. I guess either he wanted a place in the spotlight, maybe he was a bit jealous that his adopted white brother was better at war then he was, or maybe Chingachgook sort of motioned somthing like, you take that one, or something like that, but I dont think that love was the only reason. |
Ithiliana |
Posted - November 22 2002 : 4:50:10 PM dunno....judging by the book, he went to save her (or, following the book, cora) because of his love for her.... but in the movie, all there seemed to be between him and alice was puppy love....so i think that he would have done exactly the same thing if it had been cora or duncan that the hurons took, minus the loving gazes in between blows, of course |

Posted - November 22 2002 : 11:00:40 AM I think you've summed it up there purty good Theresa! I will never forget... gathering before last when, during the movie at the Skyland Arts Cinema, Uncas puts his hand on Chingachgook's shoulder and heads up the hill, Ellen crying out..."NOOOOO, DON'T GO UP THERE". Or something to that effect! If he had JUST waited!!!!
That was Ellen wasn't it? Dear sweety that she is!!!

Posted - November 22 2002 : 07:21:11 AM Keneta,
I don't know his motivation. He (and others) had so much invested in these people that he was doing all he could to see to it that they survive. I believe he did what he did in order to save Alice, perhaps knowing that Hawkeye and Chingachgook weren't far behind and could help out. I mean, afterall the three of them took care of things on the George Road, got them safely to the Fort, survived Massacre Valley...I could go on and on. So, I guess what I'm saying is that whether his feelings were strong enough to die for her or not, he was doing all he could to save her regardless.
