Posted - November 21 2004 : 3:56:15 PM I just watched the DVD again with a LOTM Virgin who is now a fan. Isn't there some Cora dialogue missing from the Waterfall scene. I swear that Cora says something like, "Save yourself! If one of us survives then part of the other does too."
Did not hear that line. Anyone else remember this? |

Posted - September 06 2005 : 11:53:20 AM I just thought of another missing line from the DVD
(in the burial ground scene after the attackers back off)
Cora: "A breed apart and make no sense???!!!" Nathaniel: "In your case miss, I'd make some exceptions."
You also have to remember, the DVD was released in 1999 I think. This was the infant-stages of DVD's I don't think they realized what a DVD could be capable of. Back then, they were focused primairly on inhanced picture and sound quality. A lot of "older" DVD's are like this. Not so much with missing lines, but they don't have all the fancy features they all have now. |

Posted - September 06 2005 : 11:30:43 AM The DVD version actually cuts a lot of dialogue out of the original VHS version.
Two other noticeable cuts include: (In the canoes, Hayward points a pistol at Nathaniel) Nathaniel: "You got nothing better to do on the lake today Major?"
(in Col. Munro's office) Nathaniel: One of these days, you and I are going to have a serious disagreement.
Let us only hope in a couple years, they decide to release another version that includes EVERYTHING, including the waterfall scene between Alice and Uncas. I know it doesn't really NEED to be in the movie, but I'd like to see how it was done. Kinda hard to get "freaky" under a waterfall, although I bet there was some good visuals. |

Posted - August 17 2005 : 09:37:03 AM I loved that line although I recall us doing a topic on that particular line sometime ago. I think the question was regarding what she meant by that. But yes the line was in the VHS version. |

Posted - August 12 2005 : 02:20:45 AM i have only seen the VHS version, but i agree with Diane B., that it seems as though they would keep the original content and add more, especially on the dvd! odd.... |

Posted - July 22 2005 : 12:34:44 PM I thought the first release was perfect! I can't stand it when they release a DVD and cut lines from it! |

Posted - July 20 2005 : 4:40:19 PM Greetings, Pike Bishop - and welcome to Michael Mann's idea of a "Director's "Expanded" Edition" of LOTM! The line to which you refer was indeed cut from the DVD - along with several other lines and scenes which were included in the VHS version of the film. IMHO, if a director is going to release an "expanded" version of a film, then additional footage should be added to the original footage, along with trailers, interviews with cast members, etc. (the re-release of "Dances With Wolves" is a fine example, with almost another hour of film which was not in the original DVD release). There are many other posts all over this message board from almost everyone here in Mohicanland who would LOVE to have another DVD of LOTM that included all of the aforementioned things, and have campaigned for such on several occassions. No luck, to date - but that doesn't mean we're going to stop asking Michael Mann to give it to us!!!
On the other hand, in defense of the DVD version, all of the "low light" scenes (Elk Hunt, The Glade) just POP out at you from the screen; and I'm sure that those who enjoy watching battle scenes were appreciative of the extra footage of the battle at Fort William Henry (such as Hayward's diversion of the French during the courier's escape). Another "low light" scene which benefitted from the superior viewing quality of the DVD is "The Kiss"...and I'd better stop right there, before I get carried away just thinking about it!
