Adele, Adele, Adele ... have you tried snorting chaw-co-lats or thinking 'happy thoughts'? Does wonders for those Mohicanland Gatheringless Blues. Really missed YOU at Gath#5! I just KNOW you & Ilse will be here for Gath#6! You have to ....... You have to ...... there are drinks to be drank & mountains to be mounted & laughter to laugh. And thank you again SO much for that phone call, Miss! Much appreciated.
The pleasure of the call was all mine...believe me...well, except for the part where my nose was truly rubbed in it when you described how great the SOTR night was....sheesh!
It's funny because I was talking to my mother yesterday about Gath#6, and I told her that as soon as I knew what the dates would be, I would see whether I could work around it, it's going to be tough, with Connor's school dates, a new job, and no money....but I am hopeful...very hopeful...

PS Stephanie...my fave thing about the 'Car That Thought It Could...' pic, is that every time I look at it, I remember Rich's reaction - I don't think I have ever seen him laugh so hard!! It's a great memory!!!

I have seen the face of war before, Stephie-poe, but never war made on women with children. And almost as cruel as Rich's indifference.
Now, I will back up your claim. Rich does have a really bad habit of poorly picked pathetic pic posting. (Doc M says it's a disease & maybe we ought to consider smashing his shadowbox.) If you really have a picture preference just tell me ... I'll see to it. I did like the one of you with Bill Miller & Lowery Begay taken that FAB night at SOTR!

Posted - July 10 2002 : 2:28:18 PM HM, Don't count on Rich to post the more flattering of pictures. I think he has a conspiracy going to post the most icky fat pics of me, anyway. Hmmmmm maybe it's Elaine. To furthur enhance her svelte graceful self, she picks out the yucky pics of the rest of us to post on the site. Hmmmm yep it's a conspiracy. Actually my favorite picture of Huggy is the lone white car on the air strip! Stephanie

Huggy Merchant, you have a really interesting name! Is it a reference to something, and are you a guy? By the way, the couples you mentioned are certainly good-looking, but more attractive than DDL and MS...hmmm, I wouldn't say so.
*checks*...nope...definitely not a guy! There is a pic of me floating around here somewhere that Rich claimed to have made available on my profile (Note to Rich - I know what you're like, if you see this as a prompt to post a pic of me, post one from Gath#4 since there was about 55lbs less of me than at Gath#3!!
Anyway, where did the name come from...actually...I can't really remember - we used to have a lot of 'traders' posting (Dutch, English, Canadian....) and since English was taken...I became the Huggy Merchant...trader in words, warmth and wit! When I came back from my first gathering (#3) I started posting the Thought For The Day which we have now started up again and used the new id for this purpose. It seems to have stuck! Just for reference, my real name is Adele, I live in London, England, and I am STILL depressed at missing Gath#5
Clear it up any?!!

Posted - July 09 2002 : 11:36:14 PM Thanks for the kind thoughts, Christie. I was pretty freaked out when the chicken pox spots erupted on my face, but they've subsided now!
Other people have said that Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman didn't have chemistry in "Kate and Leopold", but I disagree. I thought their rapport was adequate for the storyline. It was quite good in one or two scenes, if not particularly memorable. I've seen much worse chemistry- Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman especially!
I agree with you that it comes down to a believable love story. If DDL and Madeleine Stowe hadn't been convincing lovers to me, I wouldn't have liked them no matter how good-looking they were. As it is, they're probably my favourite romantic couple.

Sidony,
I'd have to agree with you that DDL and Maddy Stowe are two ab-fab gorgeous actors. Although I do believe Richard Gere and Julia Roberts give them a run for the money in Pretty Woman, with a close second by Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis in Top Gun. When I was thinking of favorite romantic movies and onscreen couples, for me it all comes down to a believeable love story. Separately I love Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman, but I didn't buy them as a couple in Kate and Leopold. Not that you asked for it, but I'm giving to you anyway, here are some of my favorite romantic movis because of the couple. These are in no particular order: Moonstruck with Cher and Nic Cage The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara Gone with the Wind Witness with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis Romancing the Stone Sommersby with Richard Gere and Jodie Foster Ever After with Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott When Harry met Sally I admit we might all be a little tired of it, but it's still a classic movie Out of Africa The Big Easy with Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin
Now this list is about love, but the kind that might rip your heart into little shreds as you watch the movie and sob through with an entire box of kleenex. Sophie's Choice with Kevin Kline and Meryl Streep Good Will Hunting Red Violin which surprisingly enough most men like i am Sam with Sean Penn who deserved the Oscar nomination as well as the rest of the cast
I think that's enough for now, although I'm sure I'm missing a number of movies that other Mohicanites love just as much as LOTM (Okay Rich, I know excluded Braveheart) Besides, I just fried my brain trying to figure out HTML code to get this message looking halfway decent. I hope you're recovering okay from the Chicken Pox. I know with adults it can be painful, and since my Dad had Shingles last winter, it threw him for a loop. Rest easy. Christie
Christie you named two of my favourite movies there...Moonstruck (although I never did see what people saw in Nicholas Cage - lookswise) and The Big Easy which has to capture some of the best chemistry between two actors on film.
As far as good looking couples go...I would say that it would be hard to beat Brad Pitt and Julia Ormond in Legends of the Fall or going back a while...Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in Notorious.....or Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind....
