Posted - January 13 2005 : 12:25:53 PM Carter Hello! Thanks for the link! The picture looks very interesting; will be looking forward to it. It will be good to see Wes on the big screen again; although (in viewing the trailer) I hope Mr. Farrell has more than one facial expression for the movie....

Posted - December 18 2004 : 9:49:03 PM Hi, Carter (and everyone!)
It's been a long time. How are you?? I'm really intrigued by the movie clip and look forward to seeing it.
I found out last year that Wes & I share the same birthday (although I'm sure the year is different - I'm the old one between us, no doubt). Please pass on my birthday greetings to a fellow Sagitarius!

Posted - December 15 2004 : 08:13:47 AM Carter,
Thanks for the link - the trailer is awesome & I am really looking forward to the release of this movie!
Like Kaylynn, I don't often go to the movies - mainly because of the fact that a lot of what Hollywood puts out these days isn't worth the price of the movie ticket, IMHO - but I will definitely go see this one! It will be great to see Wes on the big screen again! |

Posted - December 14 2004 : 10:39:26 AM Carter, I saw the trailer and it looks to be a very good movie. I will just have to wait for it to come to PPV since I don't go to the theaters very often.
BW, I love August Schellenberg!!! With Wes and August in it, it is sure to be a hit!!!

Posted - December 14 2004 : 08:09:35 AM I saw another familiar and very welcome name in the cast -- August Schellenberg. He played Chomina, the Algonquin who (to his eventual sorrow) agrees to guide the Jesuit missionary in "Black Robe." |

Posted - December 14 2004 : 07:18:07 AM Wes said he spent a lot of time dragging Colin Farrell through the woods in this movie. From what little I have read about Mr. Farrell, he NEEDS the "attitude adjustment" a little "butt kicking" would bring! LOL

Posted - December 14 2004 : 12:34:34 AM Here is some more info by a person who was in the movie.
quote: There is violence depicted, though I don't know how graphic it will be on the screen. All the matchlocks were real except for a couple of rubber ones the real stunt guys carried. John Buck made some, if not all, the muskets and calivers that were used. There were also plenty of swords used. There were a lot of broadswords with various styles of hilts. In one scene, I was tapped to play one of the hoity toity gentlemen who would not work. they issued me a neat little swept hilt rapier and dagger for that one. The actor who played John Smiths' henchman/confidant carried a little cuttoe, or cutlass. Farrell, as Smith, carried the cage hilt that you saw. though the historical record hints that the actual John Smith favored a cuttoe. The illustrations in some of his writings show it looking like a scmiter (sp?) with a clip point and a very curved blade. Didn't see that on the set though. As for too many clothes on the Indians, yes and no. As Mr. Galban can attest, there was a big push to hire as many Native American extras as possible. Some of those agreed to dress authentically in just the front apron and some did not.
From the looks of this, it seems to be one of the more accurate portrayals of a little known period. As to whether or not some of the things acutally happened, well, how much of LOTM actually happened as shown. |

Posted - December 13 2004 : 2:42:18 PM Look, I have no interest in debating Pocahontas. We are talking about FICTION not an historical documentary, as besides I thought that debate about political and historical issues belonged in another section of this message board. Has anybody here seen the trailer? The images are very beautiful!! |

Posted - December 12 2004 : 11:43:08 PM This was posted on another board. quote: The "legend" is that she saved his life and that there was a romance involved. In fact one of our everyday tasks at work is to inform our visitors that Pocahontas married John Rolfe, not John Smith. Smith never claimed a romance between himself and Pocahontas. He did wait until she was famous to claim that she had saved his life. Interesting to know that he was also captured by the Turks in Eastern Europe before he went to Virginia. Seems his escape from there was aided by a Turkish "Princess". Hmmm...
Seems that Smith may not have been the most honest of fellows. |

Posted - December 12 2004 : 7:34:55 PM Victoria, Why do you refer to Pocahontas as a myth? Or is it the way that she is portrayed that you take exception to??? Just wondering.
