Posted - October 22 2002 : 09:30:08 AM Good day all, and welcome to 'The Barracks', I am Sgt. Duncan Munro of His Majesty's 42nd Royal Highland Regiment. Since I seem to have ruffled the fur of the "Lions" in their den, I felt that perhaps us 'Right Minded' types need a place to sound off (without hurting anybody's feelings). Now this barracks is an OPEN FORUM (just like a real military barracks, something of a 'homecoming' for those of us who wore the uniform at one time), and any topic is available for discussion. The only rule is that, if you pack emotional baggage, please check it with the corporal of the guard. We are all Soldiers of the King, no matter what our title may be (Regulars, Rangers, Provincials & Milita), and therefore do not allow 'feelings' to govern political or intellectual debate. This is the price of being professionals. Now, this does not mean that we cannot grouse (every soldier's inalienable right, since the Roman Empire). So please, secure your arms, stow your gear, crown your bumper and chat with your mates.
Your Humble First Sergeant,
Sgt. Duncan Munro Capt. Graham's Coy 1/42nd Royal Highlanders

Perhaps it would assist the readers to know that you are on staff at Fort Pitt with an agenda? It would be good then to take your own advice and try to help instead of hinder |

Posted - May 22 2003 : 1:30:11 PM Nicely said, ladies & gents - and I am in full agreement! We can't have potshots taken at will & deception is wrong, no matter how one slices it.
That all said, "multiple personalities" have been a part of the Mohican Board for almost as long as it has existed. It can be fun. The difference is that in the past it was known to all who these alternate egos were.
We have a forum up now - Bumppin' Round Bumppos - where this is encouraged. If that forum doesn't meet your needs, make that known. We'll accommodate.
Really, the "rules of engagement" are quite fair & allow for quite a bit of room to play. [Of course, I wrote them! Kidding, folks - just kidding!]
Hopefully, we can all carry on in trust & friendship & good-will.

Posted - May 22 2003 : 1:07:03 PM There have been some posts recently, dating back a few months, which, in some instances, have crossed the line of propriety far enough to get the serious attention of the owner and Moderators of this forum. The offending individuals have been notified about their actions, and some improvement has been seen. However, there also have been attempts to circumvent the Moderators by individuals disguising themselves so as to hope to avoid detection. We have the ability to track and identify IP addresses.... and have been using it. Therefore attempts to disguise posts by using alternate email addresses, new user profiles, and changes in writing style are easily detectable.
This Board is privately owned and is moderated. This Board is NOT a Democracy. The Owner or his Moderators have the power to make judgments and decisions and enforce rules. That means Posts are read and judged as to whether or not they fall within the "Rules of Engagement" as stated in the Purpose. (www.mohicanpress.com/wwwboard/purpose.html) If they fail the test, they are edited or removed. Don't start screaming "First Amendment!" here...again: "This Board is NOT a democracy."
If the Moderators see there is a problem developing, you may hear from one or more of us with a gentle reminder to moderate a discussion or a request to cease and desist or to take something off list. That will be considered the first warning. Should the discussion continue after participants have been asked to take it off the board, the moderators have the ability to delete posts or even lock out those who continue to prolong an offending discussion.
Incivility will not be tolerated. Respect for another's viewpoints advances our ability to learn about our time period and makes the list a place where all members can post those viewpoints without fear of flame wars. Personal attacks, name calling, or condescension will not be allowed; lively discussion and respectful disagreement, however, are welcome.
Snide comments and private 'coded' side comments about 'the competition' or anyone else are unacceptable as well. Posts, which offer opinion or critique of venues or organizations, are of course welcome, but please consider the manner in which they are conveyed. That is the crux of this issue!
Belittling of others by assigning nicknames will not be tolerated.
Multi-personalities by one individual to make the appearance of support for a cause is misleading, deceitful and childish and attempts to inveigle further support from other board members. That practice will not be tolerated and will be exposed when found out.
Now…with all that said, all individuals that post in this forum are welcome and this post is in NO WAY an attempt to discourage participation by any one user. It is simply a little stronger warning being put forth, since an initial private one was rather ignored. If one feels the need to post anonymously, please do not create multiple profiles. This can only be construed as propagating a “Hidden Agenda”, a practice expressly prohibited by the Rules of Engagement (See above). This is a rich, active forum and we hope it can continue to be so!

The only upside was that we got a couple of new recruits for the 42nd, and we got to share a drink with our new 'gun bunny' buds Matross Haden & Gunner Wilson.
Sorry to miss you guys, but I knew that it would be a bust.It turns out that my path and that of Bombadier Fusia crossed at the pub. |

Posted - May 19 2003 : 12:10:57 AM Everyone knows that the Colonial Fair was a bust because there was no battle. We can all thank "The Virginian" for that.He would like to see a world where no guns exist.I believe that such a place does exist, its called Never-Never Land.I don't know how one man can rewrite history and force it down everyone else's throat.I suggest that all of our readers write their elected officials to complain about what is going on down at Fort Pitt.
As far as my unit goes, they can leave, but I'm staying at Fort Pitt, even if I have to become a highlander. Not only has the 60th turned on their own, with the cliques that were formed within, but they have turned on the only people who tried to help them, the 42nd.While the BlackWatch, though newly formed, has won the respect of other groups,my unit is just the opposite. For our so-called leaders to believe the lies of "The Virginian"is tragic.

Posted - May 18 2003 : 6:15:37 PM Snazzy, pink t-shirt huh? I wonder what Rick Santorum would say about that! What's wrong with having a battle? It was God,guns & guts that made this nation great. It sounds like this guy has no business down at Fort Pitt.He would be more at home at the Epherta Cloister Museum in the eastern part of Pa.which is Quaker affiliated. It was the Quaker dominated assembly that got many Pennsylvanians killed after Braddock's Defeat. There were few if any Provincial troops in the state, and the settlers were ill-prepared to defend themselves from attacks by the French & Indians.I wonder how the Virginian would handle our problem with Al-Queda,but I guess that is a topic for The Lion's Den. |

Dear Highlander, Thank you again for showing Gnr. Wilson and myself around today at Ft. Pitt. Also, thanks for understanding why we chose to arrive in muffti, as opposed to our proper regimentals. I do have one question, I really liked the 60th Royal American Regiment T-Shirts which the Ft. Pitt Museum Associates were selling, how come they didn't do one for the 42nd Royal Highlander Regiment. Are they trying to sell them short or snub the 42nd? What is going on?
As Always Your Friend,
John,it was a pleasure to show you and "The Gunner"around.I hope that you guys will feel at home in our new RA section.Too bad Rob couldn't make it.Nobody asked for our input on the t-shirts,although they do look nice. They have to figure out down there that either we are a team,or we are not. While the ladies of the 60th did a nice job overall, the reason that the French were a no show was "The Virginian's" hatred of guns and violence and his cancellation of the planned battle.I hate war as well, especially having experienced one firsthand(unlike the Virginian ).But I believe that a battle reenactment would be a fitting tribute to the brave men of Montgomery's highlanders who fell at "The Battle of Grant's Hill" while fighting for King & Country. This is why ACW reenactments are so popular.
What gets me however,is that "The Virginian" is putting both regiments at each other's throats, while he sits back and laughs. He does not add anything positive to the museum. He only knows how to disrupt things and create ill will. Now that I think of it, the word agitator comes to mind.He even dressed for the occasion by wearing a snazzy, pink t-shirt.At least when his bosses come to town,he is in a shirt & tie.But hey,why dress just for a bunch of reenactors?
It is too bad that Paul Day was not here,as you would have enjoyed meeting him.I consider him to be a good friend, who has many years of reenacting experience. If he was online, and could see what I posted about him regarding his "film" experience at Cook's Forest,he'd be laughing too.At least he will be staying with us at Fort Pitt, even if the 60th leaves us for The History Center.See you at the premiere. |

Posted - May 18 2003 : 05:03:44 AM Was Big "V" at the fair?I'm sure that was entertaining.Anyway,I was able to hook up with Bart, and we'll be doing Ft.Niagara & Ft.LeBeouf this year with those guys.Anybody else in Mohicanland going to these events? |
60thGrenadier |
Posted - May 18 2003 : 01:31:36 AM I can answer that question about the t-shirts.The 60th has been snubbing the 42nd all along, and this was their latest attempt. They paid way too much for the shirts($1,200.00) in the first place, and sold very few to boot.If I were the 42nd,I would be demanding equal time here from the treasurer. In addition,I saw the Big "V" get obnoxious with the Highlander, and accuse him of posting about him on this board. He need look no further than his own regiment.Everyone can see, that the Highlander never even mentions Big "V" at all.In fact, the Highlander has been nothing but nice to everyone in the 60th.I think that he is wasting his time in that "The Virginian"is causing bad blood between the regiments by twisting the facts about what is posted.Furthermore,Big "V" would never dare say anything to Bart Redman.I even saw the Highlander buy one of our t-shirts,and look what he gets.

Posted - May 18 2003 : 01:10:05 AM Dear Pte. MacDougal, I agree with you 100%, Bart Redmon is one of the great living historians within the F&IW circle. I had the honor to meet him a couple of years ago, while I was still doing ACW. After chatting with him for a while, which he was very patient and helpful with any of my questions, I then went to see my first F&IW event. Mr. Redmon is an absolute gentleman and wealth of information. I am proud to say that it is because of his personable nature, as well as the accuracy of his impression, that I now do F&IW.

Posted - May 17 2003 : 10:50:53 PM Hey Grenadier, I checked out their site a while ago. Those Redman brothers are great guys, and their unit is really squared away. They are a group that is serious in the proper portrayal of a 60th RAR "Hat Company", I also understand that they too have a Grenadier impression. The hobby sure is better off with them in it.
Huzzah!!!! For the Redman Brothers!!!!!!
