Posted - July 25 2004 : 12:58:16 PM I had a wonderful surprise Friday afternoon! Ariel's mom, Lori, called to tell me they received the check! It was great to talk to her - first time for any communication other than emails (and our emails don't seem to like each other, so we always have to go through Rich). We were both impressed by the fast service from US and Canadian postal service!! I even got a smooch over the phone from Ariel herself - a bit of a "MM" sound coming over the line! Lori said she waved to me, too!
Heard all about their family trip to British Columbia to a niece's wedding. Poor Ariel ended up in the hospital for 2 days with an ear and chest infection. Her most used word the whole time was "home, home"! But she bounced back for the rest of the trip. THEN got home just in time to go to the hospital for a sleep study (due to continuing problems with sleep apnea). According to Mom, Ariel was NOT a happy camper about being back with those drs. and nurses. But she made it through with some TLC from her Mommy, and she'll be heading for 1st grade soon with the challenge of learning to say a new teacher's name! Also ahead will be more appts. with her eye specialist to talk about the next step in preparing her for eye prostheses. Apparently Ariel has had enough of him too! He can only talk to her parents (resorting to hand signals at times)and skip any interaction with Ariel...or else she SCREAMS!!
I told Lori how much fun we all had doing the auction for Ariel and that I would send her some pictures. She did see some on the board already and commented on all the WONDERFUL STUFF you all donated!
Can't tell you all how surprised and excited I was to have that personal phone call and to hear Ariel's voice in the background!!

PS I did mention how much we'd LOVE to have Ariel visit a Gathering some day!! |

Posted - September 22 2004 : 11:52:23 AM Karen, Yes, I LOVE the pillow cases; and for that matter, every thing at the auction, which, Jayne, you know well, I spent a LOT of money....glad I have a job!!! My hubby, who found out he is part Cree INdian from Canada; (hopefully I spelt that right!); always gives me a lecture of "his people"...ah, just kidding; he knows it's my pillow; and a GREAT sewing example...good on you! My sisters are fine; they picked up many items of the raffle to what...give me for Christmas???? I'll find out!!! Great to see you and your sister too!!! Jo |

Posted - September 20 2004 : 7:45:05 PM Hi Jo. Jayne's sister and helper here. I did do the pillowcases you mention and she's right, I'm really happy to know that you're enjoying them. I love doing needlework and love it when I know some-one is getting good use out of something I've done. It was good to see you and your sisters again. Hope all are doing well. Karen

Posted - September 10 2004 : 4:32:32 PM Well, Jo. I believe the pillow cases you asked about were stitched by none other than Karen - that would be MY sister, Karen. I'll let her know how much you like them. She'll be very happy to hear it.
Michael Williams forced your bidding price up by about $35 after the others decided to drop out of the "war"! We had over 78 items in the auction, plus all the other stuff we sold. I know why you liked it so much - it was the long, boring wait while I stupidly announced all the bid winners! Like everyone didn't know already!! Duh!
Anyway, Jo. For whatever reason, I'm REALLY glad you had such fun. Look forward to seeing you all the NEXT time around!

Posted - September 08 2004 : 8:23:54 PM Jayne, Actually, I was gald that the elder Del and I came to an "agreement" about the GREAT book - The Art of Robert Griffing (should be underlined); something I was going to buy on the internet; but he ran the price up; but nOT as much as the "ultimite lurker"; Michael Williams? was it; who ran the cost of my LOTM Manuscript up to way more than I wanted, but by then, I was determined to have it; and he probably doesn't even remember! At lest I was able to have it signed by Russell Means which means (no pun intended) (!) I have all of the autographs on the front.... also I am very much enjoying the cross stitch pillow cases - Jayne; do you remember who did these? They are beautifully done and I use them all of the time! I also have my prints that Kate donated set up; and I so enjoyed this auction so much more than the others; don't know why; maybe it was the ATM I was able to find...even though I had to write a check!!!!! Also got lots of good stationary...somehow, however, Cherie never seemed to call my name for the raffle...even though I knew she had it in hand! Ha, Ha! Another great Gathering end; although we didn't want it to end! Jo Thank you for all of your hard work again; and to everyone who donated such wonderful items; they were so hard to keep from Phil signing his name to at the last second!!!!!!! (It took all of my sisters to "save" my items for me......) Sorry, Phil...but you did get to see some Sun Rise on that first day....didn't you! |

Posted - September 07 2004 : 11:04:12 AM It's true, Jo. Kate was (and is) a hard act to follow! But with the wonderful help from Karen, Kay, Patrick and the many others involved - it's been worth the attempts! And as I mentioned in the other Ariel post, your hefty check was most welcome! And it was quite solid, too!
Talking to Ariel's Mom was a real treat.

Posted - September 05 2004 : 5:30:56 PM Jayne, This is really really rally late (my middle name) but thank you again for hosting "Ariel's Cabin"...it was, for me, so full of things; I overblew my budget....thank heavens you took the check I wrote. Kate set an impossible example of how to do it; you succeeded without looking back! The fact you were able to connect with Ariel - only frosting on the cake for you and us all(thanks for letting us know)! Good on you and to all of your helpers!
Jo whose computer and work have made me very neglectfull in posting... |

Posted - July 25 2004 : 8:49:57 PM Jayne, That is wonderful that you heard from Lori and little Ariel herself. It seems like she is going to have to go through alot more than any one child should have to!!! It would be wonderful if Ariel and her parents could make it to the 2006 Gathering. I know that I would pitch in to get them to N.C.!!!
Love, Kay |

Posted - July 25 2004 : 4:00:36 PM Thanks for the info, Jayne! It's good to know they got the money so quickly and to get an update on Ariel. Sure is sad that little girl has to deal with so many medical issues. It feels good to know that we've done a little something to try to make things a little easier for her and her family. Knowing that you've had some personal contact with the family makes me want to do more!
