Yes indeed! Contrary to persistent rumors over the past months, the Carlisle Barracks -- second-oldest active Army post in the country, home to the U.S. Army War College, formerly the site of the Carlisle Indian School and still the site of the graves of students who died there -- was NOT on Friday's list of military bases to be closed. Wonderful news! The base not only contributes lots of money to the local economy, but contributes lots of good people as well -- soldiers who once studied at the War College or were stationed at the Barracks, and who liked the area so much they decide to return when they retire. My sympathies to those whose areas were not so lucky in this latest round of base closings.
