Posted - August 09 2004 : 01:43:41 AM Well as many of you know, Marc's car was totaled just before the gathering. And as many of you know, we left right after the gathering for Texas to pick up it's replacement (the car that was totaled was a VERY motified 97' Grand Prix, Marc has raced it on many occasions, The "new" car was a 99 Grand Prix).
Marc has been working every day on getting this "new" car motified!! Tonight.....It caught on fire in the driveway and burnt to the ground. We heard the explosion (not a real loud one, but enough it got our attention) and ran outside. We got water hoses and started watering it down. By the time we got out there the hood was fused shut. So there was no saving the car, now it was just trying to save the house. Lucky for us it was parked outside (which it usually isn't). We did manage to keep the car from exploding and catching the house on fire. But what a night....I did have to go into the ambulance for some O2. I guess I took in a little to much smoke. They wanted to take me to the hospital, but I really don't think I got THAT much smoke, so turned them down.
Moral to this story???? Don't buy a Grand Prix ..LOL...

Posted - August 11 2004 : 1:03:46 PM Gosh Cherie! Glad you and Marc are safe. That is scary!! I do hope you pursue this because the outcome could be much worse if the problem isn't addressed through a recall. You owe it to yourselves and other Grand Prix owners to get the word out as much as you can. In the meantime, hang in there and be thankful no one was hurt. What a "Nytmare"! Steph |

Posted - August 10 2004 : 09:51:01 AM Well well well....The story continues...come to find out, this seems to be happening a little more then it should. Yet they havent recalled or even acknowledged that there might be a problem. The fire Marshall said that it looks like it started near the wiring harness. Marc had not modified anything (as of yet) that would have started a fire. This is at least the 7th Grand Prix to just catch fire (people we know of, that Marc hangs out with on the Grand Prix board) in the last few years. Geico is going to be talking with pontiac.
Needless to say, Poor Marc is not a happy camper They have'nt even been able to remove the heap of coals from our driveway yet. And YES it still STINKS . Seems as if all the wheels are frozen, won't move, so it still sits. They are going to try and remove it today. Hopefully the driveway is still intact.

Posted - August 09 2004 : 09:51:00 AM OMIGOODNESS, Cherie! I CAN’T BELIEVE the run of bad luck you are having with those trucks of yers!!!! I’M SOOOO SORRY to hear about last night’s ‘goin’ on’s’!!!!
But – like Sharon said, the main thing is that you are all okay!!! The truck can be replaced, your house could have been replaced, even all the precious things like photographs can often be replaced by getting copies of other family members’ pics. But – YOUR LIVES are PRICELESS AND IRREPLACEABLE!!! And you both got through it with hardly a scratch. Smoke Inhilation is bad enough… but your lives were safe. That’s the most important thing!
(Heck, if ye’d kicked the bucket, who’d do the Gathering RAFFLE?????)
Seriously, you can laugh now, but at the time… I’m just so thankful that the good fairy, your guardian angels, WHOEVER – heck, ALL OF THEM, were looking after you and keeping you safe!! HOW ELSE can you account for the unusual decision to keep the truck out of the garage last night????
Y’know… I’d GIVE ANYTHING to be a fly on the wall when you go into your Insurance Office and say ‘can I have another truck please?’!!! Boy, the Harbisons are really making those folks earn their money, doing all that paperwork!! Heheheheee…
Anyway – you’re SAFE. I’m so pleased!!!!! Now… go pamper yerself and go have some FUN. I think you deserve it!!!

Posted - August 09 2004 : 07:10:11 AM Oh Cherie,
Talk about having a bad night! I am just so happy neither you nor Marc were injured (any worse than the inhaling smoke - bad enough I suppose) and that you DID keep the house safe. Yep, can't help but wonder if there isn't a message there, huh? And I bet the insurance company can't get that "It's been nice serving you..." letter in the mail quick enough.
So sorry to hear of the bad luck!. Hugs to Marc and again, just so glad you two and your home escaped injury!!!
