"As I traveled down the road in my car listening to 'Live at Legacy Studio,' I couldn't help but to feel that if Angels from Heaven were singing to me it could not have sounded any better."
It wasn't as if I was looking for these ladies. It was simply a case of serendipity. I have always loved music, and, in fact, in my younger days I actually played in a band. One day, I was searching for a tune on YouTube. I don't remember which one, but my feed suddenly presented me with an image of these 3 faces. There was a look about them that said, "We really love what we're doing. Give us a listen." Being stuck, musically, in the 60s & 70s, it helped that this was a Crosby, Stills & Nash song called "Helplessly Hoping." What the heck, I clicked. I was most pleasantly surprised. I eagerly searched around for more from them and was pretty much blown away by what I was finding. In a time when it seems that most music is about as relaxing to listen to as nails grating on a blackboard, these gals had poise, harmony, melody, and an amazingly simple sound that was just ... well ... music. Pure, lovely music.
"Suddenly Years Align" they called themselves. I've been hooked ever since. It was so gratifying to finally have found a new group that I could truly love. No pomp & circumstance. No screaming or jumping around the stage. Rare in these days. So, ordered their one CD [to date] - two, actually, as I bought one for my son. Plus, I bought a digital copy from iTunes for my phone so that I could play it in my car. My Honda HRV has no cd player, but it does have bluetooth! I listened day & night. To this day, I usually wake up with one of their songs playing in my head. Then, the unthinkable happened. This perfect collection of talent - 3 perfectly blended muscians - lost a member. Sophie de Graaf [vocals, guitar, banjo, harp] was gone. (see: ROWANN) Just my luck, I figured. Just when I had found a perfect sound to keep me company, they were no more. It felt as if I had lost a very good friend.
Yet, things have a way of coming around, and before I knew it there was a female Knight in shining armor racing to save the day. Introducing Daphne van de Bor. Oh, perhaps I should have mentioned that these ladies are from Holland. They sing mostly in English, but some of their most beautiful songs are sung in their native tongue. Anyway, it took a bit of time to get used to the new face, but after watching a Christmas live stream they did back in December, 2021, I was hooked ... again. I do believe they have a very bright future. It is amazing what music can bring to the table. It seeps down deep into one's heart & soul and wrings emotions out of you that you never knew you had. I thank you, "SYA," as they are now known. You'll never know how much joy you have brought to me. Someday, I hope to see one of your shows in person. So, to all of you out there, I put together this little web site to introduce you to my newfound "friends." Listen & enjoy! Gratitude to Amanda, Daphne & Yvonne ... and Sophie, too! Your music is always with me. --- My first impression: The Most Beautiful Instrument.
Unabashedly Recommended To Soothe Your Soul!
"That’s very sweet of you. I did take a look and you are just so wonderful, seeing the beauty in all we created, and the things they still do. I’m sure it’s appreciated." ~~ Sophie de Graaf
Amanda Muller (vocals, guitar, mandolin, flute) -- Daphne van de Bor (vocals, guitar, harmonica) -- Yvonne Leek (vocals, piano, accordion).
Hailing from the Netherlands, Sya is a unique trio of muscians who offer up a lovely acoustic blend of pop/folk tunes. Originally formed back in 2014 - see sampler video just below - they put together a beautiful CD in 2018. After touring Holland, as well as parts of western Europe, the original line-up broke up in 2020, only to reconstitute themselves later in the year with a new member. The group does a mixture of covers - meticulously chosen - as well as original material.
