This web site, started in late April 1997 [DOMAIN PURCHASED IN LATE MARCH '97] - long after the 1992 film, The Last of the Mohicans was made (Who's counting? The novel was written in 1826 and is still considered a classic, and the gorgeous locations have been around much longer than that!) - is slowly evolving into a living "monument" to a rather remarkable bit of Americana. It has ballooned from a simple vehicle by which we could offer you our guide book to something much more comprehensive ... and it's still growing. This site is about The Last of the Mohicans and all connected with it. Thus, it has become several separate, distinctively different, yet strongly related, sections ... almost like seven or eight sites in one. There is a lot of material here that a visitor can cover. We've tried to lay it all out in an easy to follow manner, but inevitably someone may get lost. Checking in here may help ...

Section 1: PURCHASING THE BOOK

This first section, unlike most sites where there is a link to every page on every page, is laid out like a book. That is, you "flip" through the pages in sequence. At the bottom of each page is the link to the next. You will, we hope, be able to come away with an accurate and honest picture of what the guide book is like. There is a review of the book, interview with the author, comments from editors, samples of the book, a handwritten letter from DDL in which he comments on the photos, and ordering information & forms. All of the main pages of this section can be accessed from the main menu list on the PATHFINDING ... Walking the Trail ... THE BOOK page. If the topic of the book intrigues you, we strongly urge you to peruse this section in its entirety.

Section 2: THE MUSINGS PAGES

Like its name implies, this section of pages is a series of rambling thoughts, facts, photos and more - often times generated by questions from you, discussion on the Mohican WWW Board, or simply our own whims. We've got several contributors now who give you personal perspectives of the filming and lots of photos. Like its rather haphazard content, the links within this section allow you to bounce around from page to page almost at will. For a listing of topics covered in this section, utilize the MOHICAN MUSINGS INDEX.

Section 3: THE SCRIPT PAGES

The entire script of the film has been completed and is presented in this section. Here we revert back to our "book" format. At the bottom of each scene is the link to the next. You can break this pattern by using the Return To Menu button at the bottom of each page. That will take you to the complete menu of scenes at THE SCRIPT ... The Complete Collection of Scenes From the Film.

In addition, the Script Pages feature two enhancements. Some of the excerpts include sound clips from the film. If you're not hearing any, download and install Crescendo. Plus, we are linking each scene, gradually, to its equivalent scene from Cooper's novel.

Section 4: THE HISTORY PAGES

This section deals entirely with real-life history, as it relates to The Last of the Mohicans. There are photos, biographies, tribal histories and more. Again, we use the "book" method of navigation, with the Return to Menu button enabling you to view and select the topic of your choice. In addition, for the real history buff, we have included a fairly extensive list of links to French & Indian War Web Sites. If you're looking for the historical aspects of LOTM, head to HISTORY & THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS ... Seeing Through the Distant Haze.

Section 5: THE MOHICAN MUSICAL MUSINGS

A special gift ... an in-depth exploration of the beautiful music of LOTM. A bit about each piece, a look at each of the composers & contributors, sound clips, screen captures, and fascinating words from the particulars themselves. Look & listen ... it's all there, in the MOHICANLAND MUSICAL MUSINGS ... A Musical Interlude.

Section 6: THE MOHICAN PRESS GIFT SHOP

So often, people from around the world have inquired of us, "How can I get the soundtrack?" or "Where can I find the movie?" Well, now the answer is, "Right here!" In conjunction with Amazon.com books, we currently offer a wide selection of The Last of the Mohicans related books, videos & music, including selections covering history, fiction, crafts & more! It doesn't end there. We will be expanding into all kinds of hand-crafted "mohicanized" items, from dreamcatchers to, well, maybe Cora-style earrings? Time will tell. Check in now to see what we've served up so far. Why not browse now? Go to MOHICAN PRESS TRADING POSTS ... Storefronts on the Frontier!

Section 7: OFF THE BEATEN MOHICAN TRAIL

You guessed it! Stuff we just couldn't place in any of the above nooks and crannies ... mostly parody, but you're likely to find just about ANYTHING here. Strictly for the HARDCORE Mohicanite! If you dare, dive into OFF THE BEATEN MOHICAN TRAIL ... Mohican Merriment. You might even ENJOY it!

ODDS & ENDS

Don't forget our Links Page. From there you can launch into a MohicanLand you might not have known existed. There are a couple of LOTM sites that pre-date ours and were most helpful in getting us on our feet. We point you there, as well as to a myriad of other related sites, ranging from fan sites, to sites covering American Indian, colonial, or European history, to a variety of other LOTM-connected themes.

Then there is our MOHICAN WWW BOARD ... almost a site unto itself. The 1992 movie, the novel, role-playing, frontier history ... it's all there. You can join in on the discussion or simply read the posts. Either way, we think you'll find it fun.

GREAT MOHICAN GATHERINGS ... Past, Present & Future, covers the "gatherings" of Mohicanites that are fast becoming an annual tradition. Curious? Check it out!

On any page, you can vary your progress by clicking the Home Page button and returning to our Opening Page, by using the Back Button on your browser, or by clicking the Table of Contents button - the TOC gives you a complete listing of nearly every page on this site. On the Opening Page we have placed a What's New button that informs you of all recent additions to the site. This, we hope, will make it easier for you on your return visits. Below that is a selection of buttons representing all of the sections discussed above. Along with the Opening Page, we have included full site menus on the MOHICAN MUSINGS ... the beginning and the MOHICANLAND LINKS ... To Other Sites pages. In effect, the beginning, middle & end points of this web site enable you to have full access to the other areas.

Of course, we want to sell you our book, and so there are frequent links to our HOW TO PURCHASE THE BOOK ... Ordering Information page throughout this site. However, we want you to visit again and again regardless of whether you ever buy it. We've designed this site, or at least think we did, to be informative, attractive, accurate, and fun. If you love the movie, the novel, or the history, we believe there is something here for you.

Remember, this site is for you. We welcome your comments & your suggestions for improving the format or content. Feel free to contact us via e-mail with any of your thoughts or ideas.
