Okay , The information letter and application/registration forms are ready to be mailed for this event in Oct. 2008. Please help spread the word to reenactors (units, individuals, and sutlers)and if interested< I will need mailing addresses. It does state on the forms about references and events that were attended. If any questions should arise about this request, they can be directed to the contact person named on the form. The time to be period correct is 1750 to 1768. We are particularly interested in regiments that served with General John Forbe's Army.It is located in a park with nice wooded setting.

I see people are reading about it, but no replys. Go to plumhistory.org to learn more. The mailing datqbase already has 124 entries and it is not finished. Seamus, I have your address. Anyone else out there interested

I have not mailed them yet. Will Start going out Mond. and. Tues. I am just finishing up with the database So far have 132 mailings to units, individuals and sutlers.

Well, probably the best thing for you to do is to go to Yahoo Groups and do a search on "French and Indian War." This will bring up a list of somewhere around 100 groups that deal in some way with that time period. Obviously, many will not apply. The main ones you will want to concentrate on are these:
FandIWar
FandIWomen
18cWoman (yes, men hang out on the women's lists, too!)
FandIBrits
RevList (as you may know, some people do both eras)
There are some Native and French lists, as well. There will be others, but you will find that many people are members of several lists.
You will most likely need to join the lists you want to send a post through, which is not difficult to do. You may have a little bit of a lag while the group moderator checks to make sure you are not a spammer.
These are an excellent way to get the word out there, and you might even consider starting your own list for this event as a means of keeping folks informed about it. Start the list, then advertise it on the other lists, inviting people to join.

Seamus's mailing went out Tuesday Oct. j9 for Washington's Encampment. Hope to see your group there. It is already on Allegheny Countyy's page and the park's calender. Sgt. Munro should be getting his too. Along with Lonewolf.

When I returned home from Ligonier Days last Monday, my application was waiting for me. I will try to make this 2008 event. I am not a re-enactor, but I guess that you can use me as "window dressing"! LOL! |

Sorry about the address. I did not know your real last name at the time, but I don't think htat it really bothered you. I saw the picture of you with my friend Tom. Are you able to give mey a white man's spelling of two hawks in Shawnee? I came up with niiswa peleethay. The word I have heard for hawk shows up under a picture of and eagle. Did the Shawnee use the word to mean both?

We are already geting replies for attendance at this event. That is a year before the actual date of Oct.3-6, 2008. Once again, the call goes out for any F and I individual, sutlers or units interested. The request is made on the application/registration for references, events attend and pohotos to keep it a quality event. QAny questions about this request can be directed to me. The committee, acquaintences of the committee or myself may fulfill the request of references. No offense is attended. The event is meant to be public education qand interaction. And of course the getting together of the people who love history.

An updated web page for this event is at plumhistory.org.Some of it is still under construction. Two dance groups will be performing and there will also be an 18th Century circus.

One group we talked to about cutting a part of Forbes' Road as a demonstration is unable to do it.Any groups known out there that can do it like it was done in 1758 that might be interested?

Seamus and Sgt. Munroe and anyone else who attended Washington's Encampment this past weekend. Thank you and my opinion and with others thought it turned out quite well for the biggest thing my historical society ever attempted. We jad cl;ose to 500 Boy Scouts and a total estimate of between 5 to 10 thousand visiting public. The battles were great headed up by Sgt. Munroe and French commander from Contrecouer's. We had many inquiries from the visiting public and the participants if we were going to do it again next year. We will look at that possibility. It took much planning and effort on our part but we could not have had a success without the dedicated people in the living history world. Once again thank you.

Thank You Trailman, for your generous compliments. It was truly a nice event, and a very hearty "Thank You" should go to the folks who were instrumental in keeping the event running smoothly. Those folks include John Debelak (forgive me if I mispelled your name), the volunteers of the Plum and Allegheny Foothills Societies, the Allegheny County Department of Parks/Recreation, all of the living historians and the numerous emergency services people (EMS, Fire, Police & County Emergency Management), who gave of their time to make for a wonderful event.

I was there with Seamus and 2 other men from our regiment.
I would like to extend my personal thanks to you and the Historical Society for putting on a great event! As an event planner at Newtown Battlefield in New York, I know firsthand how much work, worry, and wondering goes into it. You all did a fantastic job!
I must admit that when we first pulled in (after having difficulty finding the entrance), we felt a bit of unease at the layout of the camps. But once we picked our spot, set up camp, settled in, and got past the rain we received Friday night... we were quite pleased. It was beautiful! And when we realized that we were actually camping a few yards from the original Forbes Road..... that was the icing on the cake!
The Saturday evening catered meal was delicious! The portajohns were convenient, there was ample wood and straw, and the water problem was handily solved. I would have only one minor complaint, understanding that they were necessary to have for transportation and emergencies, but there were too many golf carts and ATVs driving up and down that road. We couldn't walk very far without constantly stepping off the road to let one pass. Many times, it seemed as though they were just driving back and forth to be doing it for fun. But, that was minor. So, again... a Hearty Thank You!!!
And to the Sarge..... Well done, Sir! Well done, indeed. Getting the PA system for Sunday was a big boon. I could actually hear you. The re-enactment of Grant's Defeat was very well choreographed, and excellently narrated by yourself. I learned a lot!

I echo WW's comments, Trailman: Better directional signage once we were at or near the park, and with the carts, etc., I felt we were camping on the Bumper Car ride at Kennywood! Minor glitches occur at every event, however, and I would praise you and the Society for a job well done under the duress from early on. HUZZAH to you all!!!
(Hey Duncan--I have some good garters for your droopy hose!)

Aye Seamus, I know that the hose was a wee bit droopy by Sunday, given the running I was doing all weekend. Everyone
Sorry about the carts. We had three 2 passenger and 1 6 passenger for staff and shuttling of tired visitors. Also 2 gators for water trash pick up and other heavy errands. We too wer overwhelmed by the number of fire and ems vehicles. We will look for a better way of handling that in the future. Speaking of which give me your feedback if you are interested in attending another Washington's Encmpment. We have had many inquiries if it was going to happen again.

The ones closest to the camera (French right) were Compagnies de Marine Dumas and LeBoeuf. Compagnie Contrecouer was the center, and the Royal Roussillon Grenadier Company was on the left. The Milice and Native flying-squadron moved on a trail, up the hillside on the French left, obscured from view by foliage... Until they struck the British right flank!!!

Speaking for myself, I would definitely make the long trip (all the way from Binghamton, New York) again to this event. However, it all depends on which events our regimental event committee picks for us to vote on. So, I can't commit at this point, nor can Seamus.
