Poll Question:
As each portion of the soundtrack defines the mood in a particular portion of the film choose the piece of the soundtrack that is your favorite. I am excluding Clannad's,"I Will Find You", as there are only 15 slots for poll choices. Comment on the importance of the Clannad song in the film. If I'm correct it is included on the VHS version but not the DVD version.

Choices:

Main Title
Elk Hunt
The Kiss
The Glade Part II
Fort Battle
Promentory
Munro's Office/Stockade
Massacre/Canoes
Top of the World
The Courier
Cora
River Walk and Discovery
Parlay
The British Arrival
Pieces of a Story

Anywhere "The Gael" is played.

Cora's theme is a close second. So lovely...

I would have to ditto WW on my *very* favorite choices. The whole score is just beautiful. The first time I heard "The Gael", I got this eerie feeling that I not only knew it - but had heard it before. In retrospect, I suppose that makes sense, given my Irish background. I love Clannad's "I Will Find You". Not sure why that's not on the DVD. Maybe the editing was bit different of that sequence, and the song didn't fit in with it as well? Will have to watch that again... I think the song is important for several reasons; one is the obvious message of the lyrics that strengthens our understanding of Hawkweye's determination to find Cora, especially after the statement he's made in the scene prior to that one (we can put Uncas and Alice in here as well, I think). Of course, the line about "a place with no frontiers" resonates on a couple of different levels - a place where people of different backgrounds or cultures can be together, or life in "the next world". And even though Clannad's Irish, I thought the whole feel and structure of the song had a lot of Native American influence to it. BTW, anybody know what language is spoken at the very beginning of the song? I'm pretty dang sure it isn't Gaelic. Gosh, this is a really hard choice! This is one of the few soundtracks I find myself listening to over and *over again*!

I found this website that has the lyrics and language used (I guess it's correct). Anyway, thought I would share and see if this helps!

For some reason I've always enjoyed "The Massacre"...er, music. XD
It's thrilling, adventurous, yet beautiful in a strange way and sad.

"Tinuviel was dancing there." I love this poem!! *Anyway*, I think the music in "The Massacre" is exciting and neat in a strange way too, unless you have a headache - then it's best to skip that one.

Alice;
Hello again! And thank you SO much for the song lyrics and the site!! I thought(hoped) the language was probably an Indian one: but I didn't have the words to it. I'm sending it on to a friend of mine who is almost as much into the movie as we are. She also works for our local Irish Festival here, and is a Clannad fan as well. So I'll be thankin ya fer Herself too, I'm thinkin! :-)

Lol, as do I.

There's a good poem on FF.net based on "The Massacre." It's kind of sad. T__T Heh, I agree that the song might be a little intense. XD

Wow, this is a hard one to answer. I love both soundtracks, released in 1992 and 2000. If I have to pick only one it would have to be "The Kiss". It was extremely hard to choose just one. I also love the "Main Title-Elk Hunt" cause it's in the opening of the movie and all of a sudden you see these gorgeous men running through the woods. Also, another one that hits me straight in the heart is "Top Of The World", which always makes me cry. I'm going to dehydrate from so much crying.

Had to go with the kiss! Although I actually loved Clannad's "I will find you" which was shamefully cut out of the DVD. What were they thinking?!

Ditto on "I Will Find You"!! I probably couldn't have picked a favorite if it had been on the list. That song is really powerful, and does have a sort of ethereal beauty to it.

I think that cutting Clannad's song out of the movie was the only real disappointment for me when it comes to the dvd version. It was such a perfect scene and they had to go and change it to instrumental music! What was he thinking?! Oh and by the way...if you liked that song you have to hear Clannad's other music. All of her songs are somewhat haunting.

I'd definitely go with Promontory! The ending to that movie is filled with bravery, saddness, sacrifice, everything. Everytime I watch LOTM and Duncan is about to be taken away and that MUSIC starts, my heart does flips! It's so beautiful, I love it!

i must say, the entire score for LOTM is beautiful, but i have to say that Clannad's "I will find you was my favourite, not only because it is so enchanting, but also because of the elements that go along with it. The scene itself is so moving, as Cora and Alice are being led through the wilderness, and the men running to catch up. So, with all that put together, it really captures the theme of the entire move; the love but also despair.

It has come to us at last.

I'm going to duck now, cuz I know you're going to hate this response.

I actually think cutting "I will find you" was a good idea. *ducks flying objects*

Just hear me out, k?

Through out the movie, we have these beautiful instrumentals. Then right at the peak of dramatic tension, we have this interlude with lyrics. To me, although it was a beautiful song, it was as out of place as a bra on a bulldog. I think they should have moved "I will find you" to the end, when the credits were rolling. I've seen a lot of movies that will do this. Most directors like to keep things uniform through out the film. I think they cut "I will find you" because it broke up the flow too much. To me, the song felt very unnatural where it was.

I feel the same way kdragonrose! I can't help it. That song just does not fit. Yes, it was out of place. The entire movie has a different kind of music and all of a sudden it changes to "I will find you" with lyrics just for that scene.

Yeah the movie did sound good with just the instrumentals, but that song was so haunting...As long as it stays on the soundtrack, I'm good.

Have you any idea how hard it is just to pick one?? I love Fort Battle because it is the music played on the trailer. The Kiss is just beautiful, bu they changed it on the soundtrack! I was really annoyed about that at first, but now I can't can't decide which version I prefer.

But I'm with the people who love I Will Find You. For me, it just fits perfectly. It goes right in with that scene after Hawkeye's speech and the tune and lyrics are so hauntingly beautiful. 'In a place with no frontiers...' For me, it just about summed up the whole spirit of the movie.

Oh and I own a couple of Clannad albums, their music iswonderful. Has anyone heard the song White Fool? It seems to fit in with the whole white settlers in America idea.

Hello, I am new on this forum. I would just like to say that I enjoy watching the movie and listening to the music. It was very hard for me to pick just one song, but I chose Promentory because I think it is a pretty song and it reminds me of not only the love between Cora and Nathaniel, but the love between Uncas and Alice. Although I chose Promentory for the poll, it was a very close call between The Kiss, Elk Hunt, Cora, and The Courier.

Someday I think you and I are going to have a serious disagreement.
