Holy Cow! Is it creeping up on us, or what?

Not all that much new since last month. Here's the updated 2004 Attendee List for you.

I will be going up to the bank today & taking care of some stuff.

I guess the main thing, right now, is that I have opted to show the theatrical version of the film in the theater ... following up with the tail end of the DVD projected to the big screen - for continuity purposes, perhaps beginning at the Huron village scene. Russell will then address the Gathering, with some emphasis on the final scene. Management at the theater convinced me that the quality - and size - of the 35 MM film will be better than the DVD. I thought this solution the best of both worlds. Hope that sits well with all of you.

It will be a different sort of a Gathering, I guess because of its length. There are one or two who will be there for but a single day. Another one or two for just a couple of days. The two weekend portions will be more heavily populated - although, some will be leaving after the movie, thereby missing the games. Looks like mid-week will see a drop-off of attendees. MANY folks are skipping Biltmore, Nolichucky, and/or Cherokee. Strange. At this point, maybe 20 will actually be at every single event. That might be an over-estimate, actually. Maybe 40-45 will be here all week.

It will be a bit different in that regard, but that's the way it's shaping up. So be it.

Much to do, on some fronts, still.

Those who haven't signed up, but are coming, please do so soon?!? 2004 Gathering Sign-Ups

Then:
  • If attending the Spirits on the River evening, E-mail Ann Colby with your dinner selection.
  • Book at the Genvea! Let Diana Strickland know, if you do!
  • Contribute to Ariel's Auction [Jayne Langan Miller] and/or the General Raffle [Cherie Harbison].
  • Mail payments to me!!! ASAP!
All those contact addresses are found on the sign-up link page.

Very sorry about the AOL E-mail nightmare. Working on getting that straightened out. I am going to send the Gathering Mailing list notice out using our local server, so, hopefully, all will actually receive it!

3 Months! Not long. Let's Roll!

Rich,

Did the DVD have the trailer? I like the idea of going with the theatrical release and then following up with the final scene in the DVD...that scene tears me up. And to have Russell's commentary on it will be very enlightening, I'm sure. Getting exciteder and exciteder!! Woohoo!

Rich,

I don't think the fact that some folks are skipping one or more events is too strange, or anything to worry about. Saving money might be a factor, but I think it's more likely that some are just not sure they'll have the stamina for everything. Although I've signed up for all the events, I'm not sure I will either! I really don't want to miss anything, but if I wake up exhausted after a few days, something will have to go (probably the Nolichucky), and I'll spend a quiet day nosing around the auction and raffles, and sitting on the deck reading a good book (about the 18th century, of course), waiting for the hardy ones to report back on the day's event. Maybe those who've already opted out of an event are experienced Gatherers who can predict pretty well when they're going to be wiped out! After all, this is a wonderful experience, but also a vacation, the only lengthy one that I and undoubtedly many others are going to have this year, and I think everyone is just planning how to make the most of it in his/her own way.

Mary is right about this. I would love to do everything, BUT....... I wouldn't have the stamina that it takes to do the rafting thing, besides the fact that I don't swim and am deathly afraid of any water that goes higher than my ankles.

Wanted to add my perspective to the Nolichucky thing. I think by far the most taxing days are the Chimney Rock Park day and Table Rock. Although there have been some jokes and "colorful" comments about the rafting day, it is the ducks that are most strenuous. The rafts are quite enjoyable and I didn't find them strenuous at all. Your group does have to row in unison at times and fairly briskly at times, but I found it to be more exhilirating than tiring. Wouldn't think twice about jumping right in a raft after either of the previous tough days I mentioned, and besides ...the Biltmore is the day before and that will be fairly leisurely - a nice recouperative day.

SO COME ON GIRLS!!!! You have to wear life vests and helmuts, if you go in... likely your whole crowd goes in!!, and it would be a shame to miss the breathtaking scenery. Not trying to pressure anybody but do "reconsider considering" the rafting trip!!! To illustrate how I feel about the rafting trip...Cecelia and I are taking the red-eye flight back from Phoenix (I have a lecture there at 5:30 PM Tuesday afternoon), taking multiple carriers to arrive in Charlotte (via Las Vegas) at 6:55am and then hightailing it up the mountain just in time to run toward the rafts flailing across the parking lot at the launch site to get a life jacket and helmut on as we take a running jump and go S-A-I-L-I-N-G through the air and land in our rafts! THAT is how bad I don't want to miss the Nolichucky!!!!!

Please give the rafting trip another once over in your mind before opting out. A great deal of the fun of a gathering is DOING IT ALL! I am still in mourning for having to miss the first three days!!! Also, the next day, Thursday, will be a rather easy day in Cherokee.

Di,
Ummmmmm, you're not aquaphobic like I am. Besides, I would have to wear shorts or something, and as anybody can tell you, Kay doesn't do shorts!!! These pale legs are always hidden behind a pair of jeans.
I will be thinking about you that day though. Just the thought of you flying through the air and into the raft is enough to make me want to be there, but I promised the other girls that I am with, that we would just relax that day, or just go and goof around.
Just promise me to come back in one piece girl!!!

You're not coming until Wednesday morning, GG???!!! I thought you and Cecilia were coming Tuesday night! Well, that settles it, then -- if the rafting trip will be my first opportunity to meet GG and Cecilia, I'll be there! I can't swim either, so those life jackets had better be GOOD.

Uh... Kay? Has no one ever told you that if you let those pale legs out to see the sunshine once in a while, they won't be so pale? 'Sides. Who cares? Betcha yours wouldn't be the only pale ones there! If I were there, folks would have to put their shades on due to the glare.

Which brings me to ask you a question my dear WW. Just why aren't we going to see you at the gathering? There are certain people that I can't wait to meet, and you would be one of them if you were only there!!! Just maybe if you bared your pale legs there, I might do the same.

Well, Kay, that challenge is almost too good to pass up. However, it simply is not possible for me to come for several reasons, which I'll not get into. I shall just have to live the experience vicariously through you all. And I am having a great deal of fun watching and absorbing everyone's enthusiasm and anticipation!

Now. About those shorts...

No can do WW. Without you there to be my blinding legs buddy, I will just have to keep mine covered up, but I promise that when you do come to a gathering, we will have a contest to see who has the whitest legs.
