As if ... !

You know, I tried my hand at posting this a week ago, but twice had it disappear as I was nearing the final stages. Once, my daughter, who was fidgeting on my lap, knocked the keyboard to the floor and my computer rebooted. I tried from scratch again, and was just about done when I clicked some combination of keys and wiped the whole slate clean. I was feeling like maybe I wasn't supposed to post it, but here I go again ...

A lot is said throughout this Board & the Web Site about the Great Mohican Gatherings, but, if you've never been to one, well you just don't know. OK, I'm sure there have been a few who've attended who left wondering, "What was the fuss all about?" But, there are very few. For the yet uninitiated, here's some of what you'll experience if you come to the Sixth [sort of]Annual Great Mohican Gathering ...

  • People from far and wide, from all walks of life, drawn together, uniquely, to spend time together for a frenzied, compacted period of time. The results tend to be amazing. There is no describing it. I've tried 5 times in my Gathering recaps. Failed miserably each time. "Warm & fuzzy" might suffice. It's the People stupid!
  • If you attend - and survive - the full 7 days, you'll be able to boast that you visited several locations that few before you have. For what it's worth, very few - cast & crew included - can say that they were at the sites of Albany ... Part II, The Burial Ground, and Rescue.
  • In addition, you will experience all the other locations which are open to the public: The Opening & Closing Vistas, The Elk Hunt, part of Albany ... part I, The Escort, Tracking the War Party, The Ambush, The River Walk, site of Lake George & Fort William Henry, Canoes, part of Under the Falls, site of The Huron Village, The Cliffs, and The Final Scene! Whew!
  • On-the-scene reporting, recounting, and touring by Soldier #2 - particularly on The George Road & at the Fort site.
  • Then, you'll get to see it all again as you view the movie - LOTM - on the big screen!
  • Russell Means will be there [and you'll get to watch the movie in his company - how unique is that?!?], H. David Wright may be, Tim Cordell [Days of Infamy] probably will, and who knows who else might pop in?
  • Sample Native & Colonial fare, and get the chance to eat not once, but twice, in 3 counties all at the same time!
  • Opportunity to fire a flintlock, a pistol ... throw a 'hawk ... demonstrate your kissing prowess - The Mohican Games!
  • Live music!
  • Will Bill Miller be there? Still working on that, but if so, what a treat you are in for!
  • A Cherokee Adventure including the Cherokee Museum, Cherokee Village recreated to depict 1750's life, and the outdoor drama, Unto These Hills!
  • Moon Over Mohicanland! 'Nuff said!
  • Vistas, waterfalls, a whitewater rafting trip, mountain hikes ... an outdoorsman's dream!
  • Colorful Program Guide & T-shirts & plenty of choice photo ops to remember it all by!
  • Camaraderie, friendships, a bit of history & lore, raffles, memories you'll keep with you for a lifetime!

Hey, there's a reason we do this year after year ...

Lest I forget, and there's also Ariel's Auction - which makes the whole thing a bit more than just fun!

Wanna come?!?

You've got over 11 months to plan & save. The good thing is, all the money is not due at the same time. You can spread it out if you make a plan & stick to it. Here is one suggestion at prioritizing your budget:

  • Lodging & travel can add up to your biggest expense. Start piggy banking a little at a time now! Spread the pain out!
  • Coins For Chingachgook! We must get this taken care of as soon as possible. Make this your top priority. Buy your raffle tickets for
